Children in Hospitals
This project was created for the 2020 Vesalius Trustathon in a team of six which included myself, Amy Assabgui, Mimi Guo, Naomi Robson, Shehryar Saharan, and Michie Wu. Tasked to create something along the theme of 'Apart, but Together', we decided to create an AR app prototype for children experiencing loneliness in hospitals. In just 5 days, this amazing team and I were able to create a prototype that was functional and enjoyable, along with raising over $500 to support medical illustrator scholarships. For an in-depth look at the project, you can visit the Vesalius page here.
Due to the 5 day time limit of the competition, brainstorming and research was neccessarily a highly collaborative effort amongst all members of the team. We managed to find a problem supported by scientific literature and a potential solution to solve that problem along with design sketches within a very short period of time. MiCo stood out to solve a real world issue that was exacerbated by COVID-19 and could potentially change lives in a hospital environment. The goal of the app was to bring children isolated in hospitals together through an AR app that would include games and chatting services with other hospital children.
My role in the team was to produce models for the AR app prototype and seamlessly integrate them into a hospital environment setting. I started off by creating a sculpt of the main character Tivo, who was then textured and rigged to sit on a bench. Following that I created multiple decorative assets that would represent the items to be purchased in the app.
Using a stock image of a hospital room to emulate the experience of a child, I placed 3D objects into the environment to mock-up the AR aspect of the app.
