Process

Ideation

The topic for this graphic medicine comic came after many months in COVID isolation and from both experiencing and hearing about stories of burnout in all kinds of professions. Regardless, this was a timeless problem that many people in the working class faced and I wanted to create a comic that captured the feelings of despair and helplessness that came with burnout. But, I also wanted to end it off in a light note by ending off with words of affirmation as a sign that things could eventually get better. Originally, I planned for this to be an animation, however as I spent more time researching, I decided that a comic might be a better form factor for me to express a character's emotions through.

Sketches & Character Style Sheet

Sketches were completed to get an idea for the flow of the story and iterate with classmates on how the story should be structured. These were oversimplified sketches, but turned out to be great for planning. During this stage, I also created a character style sheet to solidify the illustrative style and the look of my main character.
